Waveform Data

NetDC, an IRIS product, is now being implemented at SCEDC. Please email Shang-Lin Chen (schen @ if you notice any problems or if you have any questions.

To send a request, email Your email should have the standard NetDC request format, as described in the NetDC user manual. See below for an example request.

Because of some issues with our meta-data (which we are currently working to resolve), there are a few caveats you should know about data from SCEDC.

  • We only have response files for the current time. If you request a response file for an earlier time, we will give you the one for now. You can also get RESP files from our ftp site.
  • We also only have dataless SEED files for the current time, and we are using these files to make the SEED files that we ship for a Data Request. It's possible, particularly for older data, that the SEED headers may not entirely correspond to the waveforms.
  • Due to the difficulties of combining dataless SEED for each station into one large SEED volume, we are returning a tar of SEED files. To get your data, you will have to use "tar xvf filename". If we do not have a dataless SEED for a station, we will return a mini-SEED instead.

We are working to resolve these problems. We hope you'll bear with us in the meantime.

Below is an example email request:
